A whole year has passed and the weather conditions never seemed to be right. Just when I'd almost given up hope, balloon pilot, Hulon White called and said, "Let's go." And go we did. We woke at 3:45 this morning and drove over to meet the team. By 5:30 we were on the road to the launch site, and shortly after that, lifting off on our long awaited adventure. I got a chance to participate in both the set up and take down. Lift-off was smooth and a little scary at first when you think that physics is what's keeping you aloft. But we relaxed into the experience and off we went.
We started out kind of high, but lowered a bit to flush out some deer and other wildlife. Before we knew it, we were headed directly into downtown Collierville. Hulon took us even lower, and a few folks getting their early morning newspapers were quite surprised to see us hanging just 50 feet over head!! Dogs in their yards began the "twilight bark" when they looked up and freaked out. We were so close to the ground that a few ladies enjoying morning coffee were able to speak to us as we passed over them. What a cool experience!!! Anyway, it was worth the wait. Another thing to add to the list of things to do at least once in your life.
